In December the project became more defined. I stopped throwing out new sketches and started consolidating material in the EP. At the same time, I began to build a visual language for Red Threads that sits with the music: colours, symbols, and moods that reflect Russian and Tatar heritage in a contemporary club context.
Visual identity & moodboard
Developed a moodboard to define the aesthetics and vibe of Red Threads, including:
Colours: ritual red, Tatar green, warm gold, white for purity, black/dark for club and rave contexts
Themes: ritual, dark, folk, spiritual, Russian/Tatar heritage, DJ/rave energy, freedom and movement.
Used the moodboard to align musical decisions (instrumentation, textures, vocal approach) with visual ones (costumes, artwork ideas, stage look).
Vocal technique & folk choir style
Began learning a traditional Russian folk choir singing style, which I had never attempted before.
Practised new techniques such as: more open, raw timbre, collective/choral phrasing rather than solo “classical” delivery ornamentation and slides typical of village and ensemble singing.
Started applying this style to “Bolshoye Malenkoye Serdtse”, testing how my voice changes the character of the song and planning to use it in the final studio recording.
Compositional progress
Finalised core material for two songs: gathered all existing melodic, harmonic and rhythmic ideas, decided which sections will stay, which will be reworked, and which will be dropped, mapped out “future work” for arrangement, sound design and production, even though the tracks were not fully finished yet.
Consolidated the vocal line for “Bolshoye Malenkoye Serdtse”: fixed the main melody and lyrics, clarified where harmonies, call‑and‑response or choral layers might appear in later versions.
